As we look back on 2016 and all the changes and challenges that have come with it, I’d like to take a moment to share some of what gives us at Voice of Witness hope for the new year, and for the years to come.
Thanks to you, the VOW Education Program had an incredibly productive year of teaching and learning.
Here’s a small look into what we’ve been able to accomplish:
- 20,000 students served through site visits, workshops, consultations, trainings, and our free-downloadable curriculum in our 2016 fiscal year
- Over 600 free copies of the VOW anthology, The Voice of Witness Reader: Ten Years of Amplifying Unheard Voices provided to public schools and non-profits through our Sharing History Initiative
- The establishment of the Germanacos Fellowship for Sharing History, which supports ground-breaking work in oral history education
- The launch of our webinar series, Listen Up
- The release of our multimedia project and education toolkit Displaced in Colombia, created in partnership with the Magnum Foundation
- Our varied consultancies, including the Hear/Say project at the Memory and Aging Center at the University of California, San Francisco
And as a final gift, I invite you to explore our newest resource: Where Our Stories Intersect: An Educator’s Guide to Starting Conversations about Empathy and Outrospection.
