In this lesson, students will prepare for an oral history interview with a family or community member around the topic of culture and traditions. Students will discuss the different components of culture, then will write open-ended interview questions as well as follow-up questions. Students will explore the following questions:
- What is culture?
- What can I learn about a person’s culture using the oral history method?
Grades: Flexible and adaptable for middle and high school.
Time Needed: One class session.

- Students understand the components that make up culture and can generate interview questions about culture
- Students can ask relevant follow-up questions in an interview setting
