Storytelling for Social Change Webinar

This webinar provides an introduction to Voice of Witness, our oral history methodology, and the use of first-person storytelling to amplify the voices of people impacted by injustice. We explore the power of personal narrative as a storytelling format and discuss key elements of the oral history process, including best practices in ethical interviewing and project creation. We offer this webinar live annually. The next one is in 2025.

Oral History Skills and Ethics Workshop Series

VOW adapted our oral history approach into a three-part workshop series for anyone seeking to use first-person storytelling to advance a project or mission. These trainings help you or your organization reflect on best practices, gain skills, and plan a storytelling project to amplify community voices. VOW staff and guest facilitators discuss key processes and tips on how to create impactful narratives.

We host these workshops annually, and the next series will take place in summer 2025.

Customized Workshops

Voice of Witness offers expert storytelling and program support to organizations, advocates, educators, artists, and more. These workshops harness the power of sharing stories and promote empathy, understanding, and relationship-building. We work with you to develop customized, interactive engagements and activities using VOW’s award-winning ethics-driven oral history methodology to advance your missions and promote positive change.

“VOW’s longstanding commitment to ethical storytelling has continued to inspire and develop my own practice as a memory worker. All of our cultural institutions have a lot of work to do to create more restorative and ethical storytelling practices, and VOW’s resources and trainings provide practitioners practical and immediate interventions to change our work for the better.”

—Francesco De Salvatore, Manager & Curator of the Alexandria Oral History Center

“We welcomed Voice of Witness to facilitate a workshop for our staff that focused on ethical storytelling and trauma-informed practices. As an organization that works closely with tenants, HDFC coop shareholders, and other community members, it is essential that we approach our work with deep respect for people’s lived experiences. This training not only supports our ongoing efforts to better serve our communities, but also provides our teams with valuable tools to create spaces where individuals can share their stories with authenticity. A special thank you to the facilitators for their invaluable insights.”
