VOW Executive Director Natasha Johnson leads a training on VOW’s ethical storytelling principles.
Voice of Witness was thrilled to be a part of Equal Justice Works’ 2025 Leadership Development Training!
Equal Justice Works (EJW) is a nonprofit organization that mobilizes lawyers, advocates, and organizers to ensure equal access to justice for underserved communities across the country. Each Fall, EJW brings together its Fellows from across the country for the Leadership Development Training, a cornerstone event designed to cultivate a strong and diverse community of practice. This year’s theme was: Movement Building: Power, Purpose & Public Service in Challenging Times.
At the conference, VOW’s Executive Director Natasha Johnson trained more than 160 lawyers and organizers on VOW’s ethical storytelling principles and how to incorporate these strategies in their practice. For Natasha, returning to present 21 years after her own EJW Fellowship was a deeply meaningful full-circle moment.

Natasha Johnson sits on a panel at Equal Justice Works’ 2025 Leadership Development Training.
Storytelling is an underused tool in legal and organizing spaces — but when integrated with intention, it can fuel connection, deepen impact, and strengthen movement-based work.
At the end of the day, people want to be heard, to listen more effectively, and to be responsible custodians of others’ stories. With effective storytelling tools, we can radically transform the ways that movement-based lawyering and organizing create impact.
