Amplifying Unheard Voices is a four-day professional development workshop that highlights the power of personal narrative and provides educators with the tools to conduct oral history projects in their classrooms and communities. Workshop participants will engage in an interactive process that introduces the skills, ethics, and social significance of doing oral history, as exemplified by Voice of Witness and other leading practitioners in the field. This two-week program is being offered on a sliding scale to ensure that students can participate regardless of financial need. We need your help to help make this program accessible to all students by making a tax-deductible donation. Your support will make an incredible difference. Here’s how:

$25 will buy classroom and art supplies for one student.

$50 will buy one student lunch for a week.

$250 will pay for a Youth Radio graduate to mentor students in the Lab.

$450 will fully sponsor the tuition of one student.

This Saturday, join Voice of Witness and One Million Bones at the Museum of the African Diaspora. Voice of Witness’ Executive Director Mimi Lok will be discussing the work of Voice of Witness as a leader in human rights advocacy and arts education as part of a panel discussion entitled Giving Voice to the Voiceless. Other panelists include Erika Lubensky, Chief of Staff at Women for Women International, and David Evan Harris, Founder and Executive Director of the Global Lives Project, and the conversation will be moderated by Giulia McPherson, Deputy Director of Citizen Advocacy at CARE USA.

Part of the Students Rebuild Challenge hosted by the Museum and One Million Bones, all are welcome to make a clay bone—a symbol of solidarity with victims and survivors in ongoing conflicts in places like the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Somalia and the Sudan—before the talk. All the bones made at MoAD will be included in an installation that will blanket the National Mall in Washington, D.C. in June.
